![Interview with Jonas and Bo in Cosmopolitan Korea, Dec. 2010
What was your first impression of Korea?
As soon as we got off the plane, we got the impression that it’s a very modern, very futuristic kind of place. We were also shocked at how many people there were. In Denmark, even the airports are uncrowded, sluggish places…
To be honest, we’re pretty unfamiliar with the Danish music scene. What’s it like to live a life as a musician in Denmark?
Denmark has its own national radio broadcast. Because they’re not concerned with commericalism, they play a wide range of artists and genres. Even if it isn’t necessarily what’s popular, they recognize the music as pure art. So for the most part, we’re able to seek out music with originality. It’s something to be thankful for.
You’ve been together for 16 years, and have probably run into a lot of things to fight about during that time. How do you resolve your conflicts?
Generally, we use our fists… no, we’re kidding. We’re “soft” young men from Copenhagen, so we tend to solve our problems through dialogue. If there’s anything we want to say or have a problem with, we try to get it out in the open as early on as possible.
Do you have any album recommendations?
The Microphones’ The Glow Pt. 2. Any lover of music should find it satisfying. We also recommend [The Microphones’ frontman] Phil Elverum’s solo album!

On November 13th, a tremendous mass of paper planes came raining down on the band Mew, who were on stage at AX-Korea performing their final song of the night, Comforting Sounds. This heartwarming scene was the culmination of an event planned by fans that wanted to commemorate the band’s first performance in Korea, and the editor was undoubtedly not the only one in the crowd who found herself overcome with emotion. In short, Mew’s first concert in Korea was a deeply moving occasion. Concerns regarding whether Jonas’ pretty and delicate vocals would translate well to a live show, or if the twists and turns of their dramatic songs would be too difficult to follow for an audience to feel a sense of communion with the music, proved to be entirely baseless – and we were more than a little ashamed for having done such a huge disservice to the sixteen-year-old band. On the stage was beautiful music with perfectly suited visuals, and not a single unnecessary movement – just five musicians putting their all into presenting a high quality show. As she watched the concert, the editor endlessly ruminated on these words spoken by Bo six hours before it began: “Our hope is that people will see our show and realize that they’re not alone in this world.” This is our story with Bo, the gentleman from Denmark.

An actual new shirt + a relatively non-derpy look on his face (WELL HIS MOUTH IS CLOSED FOR ONCE) = IS IT CHRISTMAS ALREADY?

“Stockholm was another busy day waiting to happen and so we finished the day late at MTV’s morning glory playing Comforting Sounds unplugged. I, of course tried to hit on Kiki, the hostess, but was ignored as usual..”

“On a whim during the day we had bought spray-can hair dye, mine was bright red, Bo’s was a harsh green… Towards the end of the show our hair dye had dissolved onto our faces and clothes. I was orange like a carrot for days after.”

It’s very nice that such a great band come to Bergen. On the other hand it sucks that I’m not 18 years old and will not consider the Garage … What about a concert for us “kids”? Will probably why I fake leg and end up with a bloody nose from a bouncer and a hefty penalty from uncle police if not … (Posted by Andreas Vindenes)
- have you heard about fake id ..? I will personally make you a false passport, etc. ..

Hello Cutie Pies!
Hi! I’m a big fan of yours. In my basement I have a room with only your merchandise, posters, candles and a little altar where I praise you. I think especially Bo is a søtnos (=cutie). But to the real question, is it true that Johan and Jonas klinte (=made out) on a party? Anders told me this, and he know you well. Ciao, Eirik Lundestad, Bodø
- wad the fuck is klii…

Have you hung posters and promotion everywhere to get popular? And what’s best; equalizers or balloons?
Posters and promotion are there because or else no one would have known that our music exists and that would be a shame, wouldn’t it? Equalizers are good in the studio, balloons are good if you’re seven and go to a kids’ birthdayparty, but also when you use them later when your an adult to do something …

FAMOUS ARTISTS USUALLY COME WITH BIG DEMANDS BEFORE THE CONCERTS. ARE YOUR DEMANDS RED SAUSAGES? (Posted by JON CHR LIE)
- No sausages, thank you. Water and clean socks. And sex. [It’s possible this one wasn’t written by Bo because it actually uses proper grammar, but I’m sure he had some kind of input.]
